July 2011 Review

Writing News

Way back in July 2004 Publish America accepted “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End.” This was my first foray into actual paperback publishing, and the book itself was published the following year. It has been on Amazon as well as the PA site ever since then. The contract lasted seven years, and so this month sees the end of that chapter. “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End” is now out of contract and the publishing rights revert back to me. I am already in the process of republishing this book with CreateSpace. So far the experience has been very simple and straight forward. At the moment I am waiting for the file review of the book's cover and interior pdf files. This will be the second review as although the files passed the first review there were the usual issues of low resolution for some of the cover and interior images. So I have re-uploaded the files with all the images now set at the usually required 300dpi. Once that is all done I have to then decide whether I go for the ProPlan marketing option that would bring this edition in line with all my other books on CreateSpace and Amazon. Although I never sell enough actual paperbacks to make the option worthwhile, I do like the lower price I can set with it, so I will have a think.

I have also taken this opportunity to make some changes to the new edition of “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End.” These are the corrections made since the book was first published in 2004, bringing it up to date with the current Kindle edition. I have also switched the cover design to the yellow version used on the later two parts of the story, “The Friendly Ambassador: Changes” and “The Friendly Ambassador: Walking with the Enemy.” This brings all three volumes into line in both colour and font used on the covers. I will do the same when “The Friendly Ambassador: A Gathering of Angels” comes to the end of its contract late next year.

Still no progress on “The Sullenfeld Oracle” this month. I am obviously concentrating on republishing “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End” and so I have a valid excuse this time.

See you next month!
