Music To Accompany The Tale Of The Comet

The song that I associate with "The Tale Of The Comet" is called "Running Hard" by a rock band called Renaissance. My characters do a lot of running around in "The Tale Of The Comet", and there is a strong element of trying to get back "what used to be" at the heart of the story. Most of the characters just want to get back to home and normality, but Kai-Tai wants "what used to be" in a much more darker sense. And for Chen-Soo getting back to "what used to be" only brings a feeling of dread. But no matter how hard they all run, their goal only seems to get further out of reach. And at the end of the story "the dark" certainly is coming down.

The song was published a number of times, most notably in 1976 on the album "Renaissance Live At Carnegie Hall". I still have the album on vinyl. These days you can pick up a CD version.

If you decide to buy the CD try this cached Amazon.com search results page as a reference point (no profit for me though - damn!).

If you want further information on Renaissance, try their homepage at Northern Lights, or try the usual search engines.

For your delectation the lyrics of "Running Hard" are shown below.

Running hard towards what used to be
Losing ground in changes sliding endlessly
Reaching out for mirrors hidden in the web
Painting lines upon your face inside instead

Sounds so bad the music's flat on every line
Songs of blackened lace know you're dying all the time
Sounds so bad you let the music take your soul
Slipping through the day
Lose the only way you know

Running hard towards what used to be
Losing ground in changes sliding endlessly
Reaching out for things you want to see
Find reflections of insane reality

La la ...

Running hard towards what used to be
Losing ground in changes sliding endlessly
Reaching out for shadows passing through
See the dark around is coming down on you
